Key points on Ryan's AHCA plan
I co-wrote this 2 page overview of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) as it was moving through various committees. As of this writing, and based on the subsequent CBO report, I expect we will see some changes. But there are core themes that we can expect: less government funding for state Medicaid, lower tax credits for premium support, higher penalties for being uninsured, and possibly some good ideas to help the insurance markets in some states and rural areas (but I don't see California being one of them).
But I've seen no big ideas to bring down the cost of healthcare, which was part of the problem with the ACA too. And sadly, the only way we can 'save money' on health care is if we can find a way to have it cost less when you need it, and have us need it less.
